Bulls Head Bookshop
In 1925 Professor Howard Mumford Jones, then a member of the English faculty at UNC, approached the president of the university, Harry Woodburn Chase, and dwelt with sorrow
on the lack of a bookstore in the town of Chapel Hill. "I will, if you permit me," declared Professor Jones to President Chase, "open
a bookstore in my office."
Some eighty years later, the Bull's Head Bookshop thrives. From its first residence in Professor Jones's ordinary
office with shelves on the wall, to the basement of the Louis Round Wilson Library, to its current home in the Josephus
Daniels Building, the Bull's Head has gladly accepted its calling to supply the university community with all types
of books and a place to sit and read them. We take as our motto Professor Jones's words to his customers: "Please feel free to read
any of these books as long as you want to. If you want to buy one of them, it is for sale."
The Bull's Head Bookshop is located on the second floor of Student Stores. Our earnings go to support UNC undergraduate and graduate student scholarships. The Bull's Head sales staff may be reached directly at (919) 962-5060.

Toni Morrison
2013 Carolina Summer Reading Program Selection
When Frank Money joined the army to escape his too-small world, he left behind his cherished and fragile little sister, Cee. After the war, his shattered life has no purpose until he hears that Cee is in danger.
Frank is a modern Odysseus returning to a 1950s America mined with lethal pitfalls for an unwary black man. As he journeys to his native Georgia in search of Cee, it becomes clear that their troubles began well before their wartime separation. Together, they return to their rural hometown of Lotus, where buried secrets are unearthed and where Frank learns at last what it means to be a man, what it takes to heal, and--above all--what it means to come home.

Carolina: Photographs from the First State University
Foreword by Doris Betts
Like a leisurely stroll along the oak-shaded paths of campus, this vibrant collection of photographs captures the heart and soul of the community that is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From move-in day to graduation, two hundred images trace a year in the life of Carolina students, faculty, and staff, at work and at play, in the campus environment that has helped make Chapel Hill the "southern part of heaven."
A foreword by beloved professor and novelist Doris Betts muses on her own experiences of the University as a compelling place at the literal and figurative heart of the state. The photographs are accompanied by captions that reveal the history and lore of notable campus places, the rituals and traditions of University life, and the wisdom and appreciation of those who have passed through the nation's first state university.
Academics, arts, politics, clubs, and athletics--these pages are filled with the memory-making moments of life at Carolina, evoking the timeless present recognizable to Tar Heels young and old. This is everyone's Carolina, to treasure and to share.
